Ralph Vader for president!
Tomorrow I have a job interview with the local newspaper as a photographer. Jason Stockman and Amy Drees have been busting their humps to help me get my portfolio and resume ready. A big thank you to both of them!
Storm trooper? More like storm...pooper! Am I right?
I made this... with my mitts.
It was supposed to be a business card, but I got a little carried away. Some changes have been made; the dress is now a pale yellow and I removed the tagline because that's not good for portfolios. Still it was a good piece for funsies.

Count Nikon
I finally caved and purchased a new DSLR - mostly because my Dad is tired of me borrowing his for months at a time. The Nikon D5100. I cannot wait to start playing with my new toy

The Empire Writes Back
Things have been very productive in the Mac Lab lately, we just finished working with the Digital Forensic Certification Board. They wanted to rebrand- Logos, posters, flyers, etc.
The best part is that the three of us were competing against the company's on staff graphics guy. The board selected our work over his.

from the desk of: the dark side
It seems that employers look more for variety of experience than job loyalty. My resume has a total of two jobs. I have worked at the same place for 5 years, I still work there actually. My other place of work closed down due to monetary reasons. I worked there for 3 years.
When I tell potential employers that I've only had two jobs they look at me like I just told them I enjoy roasting kittens over an open fire at Christmas time (I don't).
When did variation in the field become more popular than loyalty and longevity?

May the Posts be with You
It seems that everywhere I go nowadays I meet another budding graphic design major. With all of these buds, I fear not being able to blossom enough to stand out and make my mark on the industry. As I stumble through the internet I see beautiful, amazing purely inspired works and it scares me. I see my intended field flooding and i see myself drowning.
Don't get me wrong, I am very competent at what I do, I just lack the confidence to put my work and opinions out there. I lack that competitive edge that I see increasing all around me. When I was growing up, I was told the fewer waves you make, the farther you will get in life; opinions cause controversy - listen, think, and keep it to yourself.
I no longer have the luxury of keeping to myself and trying to blend into the background. My field simply won't allow it. People aren't just going to stop me on the street and hand me everything I want from life (although you are more than welcome to). I intend to earn my place in the graphic design world. It may not be next month or even next year, but I will keep fighting. It's all we can do really.
